Sales Jobs Drive the Economy Even Today
There are many sales jobs throughout all industries. Sales are what drive
business and the economy. If you look at large corporations with all of
their different facets, you will see that it is, other than people with
professional degrees, the people in sales that command the highest salaries
and commissions.
This is due to the fact that sales, marketing and advertising are what
brings money into the company, whereas all other operations cost money. So
while the fact is that operations and technical support run the business,
they are not seen as critical as much as sales.
The best sales jobs are ones that pay a salary and furnish leads or provide
an avenue to reach their prospective customers. Of course they also pay
commissions based on performance. In an economy such as the one we have
been experiencing lately, however, some sales personnel are forced to work
on a commission only basis.
This is rough, because they may spend countless hours ‘interviewing’
prospects, and if they do not close the sale, they come away with nothing
for their efforts. However, ‘when things get tough, the tough get going’,
and to do something productive and having a chance, is better than doing
nothing.
Consumers drive the economy up or down. Unfortunately when the consumers
are broke and/or unemployed, they don’t buy as much and sales jobs are not
as lucrative. Many people have had to change industries as they ‘roll with
the punches’.
For example switching from a troubled industry such as mortgage sales to one
that is booming now, like debt reduction and elimination programs. As the
economy improves there will be more sales jobs that are available and
certainly ones that require more aggressive and accommodating sales tactics
to create more business opportunities.
Sales are still one of the best ways to earn a lot of money if you are
motivated. It also requires a personality that does not become discouraged
easily. Sales people really need to keep their attitude above and beyond
whatever may be happening in their every day experience, and just believe in
themselves and their product no matter what.
